It is very vital to optimise your blog content for the search engine to improve your website’s visibility for the associated keyword on your brand, product or service. Below is a list of important points to be noted while optimising your blog content:

  1. Choose 1 – 2 long tail keywords

Choose appropriate keywords to optimise your content. Do not stuff keywords with the only purpose of ranking high in SERP. The keywords you choose shouldn’t look like unnatural. The result is that you might get penalised for keyword stuffing.

It’s better to focus on 1 or 2 keywords in a blog post, even though you are planning to use more. When you use long tail keywords, your visitors are preferably more filtered and hence the conversion rate is high.

  1. Optimise title

It is very crucial to optimise the title or heading of your blog with the chosen keywords. The title helps the search engine and reader know about the content. Keep in mind to incorporate the keywords in the first 65 characters, as Google cuts off the rest of it on SERP. The actual character limit for the title is 600 pixels, i.e. about 65 characters.

  1. Optimise headers and body

The headers and the body of your content should be optimised with the necessary and relevant keywords. Do not stuff overly with keywords and make it appear unnatural. You can get penalised for keyword stuffing in such cases.

Do not focus primarily on the keywords while writing the contents.  Google’s main intent is to provide its users with best results. So try to provide a blog that will prove useful for the readers.

  1. Optimise URL

Search engine first crawls the URL before the contents in a page. So it’s the URL that at first tells the Search engine on what a page is about. Make sure to include the important keyword in your URL.

  1. Optimise meta description

Meta description lets the search engines and readers know what your content is about. It is usually found on the SERP below the title. The Meta description should be written well and with appropriate keywords to get visitors to your page.

  1. Mobile-friendly blog

It seems more people use search engines on mobile when compared to desktops. So mobile-friendly websites are displayed first by the search engines on the SERP.  This is very clear from the 2015 Google update on mobile-friendly websites.

It is very necessary to make your website responsive and mobile friendly for SEO. Your website is responsive if it has the same URL on both mobile and desktop.

  1. Optimise images

Use alt text to images in your blog post as Google and other search engines cannot crawl the images. To help the search engines understand about the images in your content, you should add attribute text or alt tag to the images.
